The Neon Demon – 4K UHD Review

The Neon Demon is a 2016 Horror movie written and directed by Nicolas Winding Refn starring Elle Fanning and Jenna Malone. The Neon Demon focuses on an aspiring model who moves to Los Angeles in hopes of hitting it big and reaching stardom. This movie explores the dangers and pitfalls of the modern model industry in a dazzling horrific manner.

The Movie: (4/5)

Being a Nicolas Winding Refn fan as well as a huge horror fan this movie was a treat for me. As stated in my video review, I was blown about by the cinematography used in this film as well as the creepy horror undertone presented. As the movie progresses you get a slow building feeling of dread, which lingers with you after the film and leads up to the final closing scene.

The Picture Quality: (4/5)

The Neon Demon was filmed in 3.6K and upscaled to 4K for this UHD release. This makes for an uptick in fine detail, depth, pores on the skin, and make up on the models faces. This is highlighted throughout many of the photoshoot colorful scenes. Sadly this release didn’t include HDR, but for a movie with such bright and vivid colors, this didn’t hurt the presentation much.
